Saraburi Province

Saraburi province had been Khmer territory. There are ancient remains at Bang-Khamode sub-district. The city was established in Krungsri-Ayutthaya in the reign of Phra Mahachakrapat in year 1549. He toke some area of Lopburi city and Nakhonayok city to establish new city called "Saraburi". The city name is assumed it occur from that there is Nong-Ngong pool in Saraburi city. It cause they use "Sara" in Thai language meaning "pool" in English language to mix with "Buri" in Thai language meaning "city" in English language. Until year 1902, the old administration system was cancelled and reformed to provincial governed system. Saraburi city was raised to be Saraburi province until now.

Saraburi province is covering area about 3,576 square kilometres and its population is about 600,000. Most area is lowland plain near river and highland near Dong Phraya-Yen mountain ranges.

There are many ancient remains about Buddhism such as Buddha 's foot at Wat Phrabhudhabard-Woramahawiharn and there are attractive natural places such as Khao Sam-Lan National Park, Muak-Lek Flora Park, Phra Photisuch Cave, Pasak-Cholasit Dam and Sunflower Field.
 

Local Transportation

Car: Take highway no. 1 ( Phaholyothin Rd. ) through Bang Pa-In cross and turn right to higway no. 2 (Mitraphap Road) about 60 kilometres to Saraburi province. Bus: Both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok's Northern and North-Eastern Bus Terminal (Kamphaengphet 2 Road) to Saraburi province daily. Train: Leaving daily from Bangkok's Hualumphong Railway Station to Saraburi province.
